WEEK #127 NEARBY_USERS/ICS214A

GE, Operators.
Welcome to Week #127.

We’re going to pick up where we left off last week.

Click on the Messages tab and select Generate Maps and .csv files. The Select From box will have a list of “mappable” forms that you have received in the past. It should also have 30 Day Position Reports at the top. If so, select that and generate a map. Zoom your map into southern New Jersey (if you changed your position last week) You should see some operators from the net scattered around the area. They should have THIS IS A DRILL in their position comment. If for some reason this doesn’t work for you…

Click on the Settings menu in the main Winlink window. Select Winlink Catalog Requests. In the pop-up window that opens up, select WL2K USERS from the left-hand side bar. Double click on WL2K_NEARBY to see a report of the 30 nearest operators to your position. Click the Post Request button on the right.  Your query is now in your Outbox. Send it, wait a bit, and open another session to get your response. Ta-da! Now you know which operators are up and running nearby – hopefully in SNJ.

For the second part of this week’s exercise: Open an ICS214A Individual Activity Log. Start filling it out for our multi-week exercise. Start it with last week’s exercise info and continue from there.
In a perfect world, you will be able to start a personal log when you arrive on station. In the real world, it may have to wait while more urgent matters are handled. It’s not a bad idea to jot down possible log entries as you go along, for later use. Then log them whenever you get a chance to open an ICS214A.

That’s it for this week. There’s nothing to send to SNJOEM this time.
Have fun!
