Week #95 ICS214/ICS309 SET PREP

GE, Operators.

Welcome to Week #95.

The ARRL Annual SET is this Saturday. We’ve sent and received ICS213s. This week we’re going to use the ICS214 and/or the ICS309.

If your EmComm group will be using ICS214s for the SET…

I would like you to log your “activities” on 9/28, the basic gist of your day.

The Incident Name will be: SNJWW SET Prep
The Operational Period will be the beginning and end of your day.
Resources Assigned: You; the dog; whoever else you interact with during your operational period.
Activity Log: Put down some of your activities during the day. For example: Got up; walked the dog; saved the world; had dinner; went to bed. Or something to that effect.

Send your completed form to: SNJOEM

[Send in an ICS214 if you are not participating in the SET  and can’t log any nets on an ICS309.]

If your group is using ICS309s…

Log a local net between now and Sunday. Fill in the header information as appropriate for the net.
If a net is not available, you can log the SET if you’d like.

I’ll accept ICS309s from Wednesday thru the weekend, so you’ll have plenty of time to log a net on another day.

Send you completed ICS309 to SNJWW

Keep in mind:
The ICS214 is for activities that occur in relation to your station. (Came on duty; relayed information from the EOC to local shelters; off duty for a comfort break; etc…)
The ICS309 keeps a record of your station’s actual traffic. (For example: EOC to Shelter Alpha, ICS213 requesting status)
There seems to be some confusion of the proper use of the two forms. When in doubt, refer to the forms themselves. They have explanations of their use included with the form.
Another thing to keep in mind: Your ICS309 would only log information between you and another station, not every communication on a net (unless you were Net Control, and then all communications would be thru you)
For example: You are shelter Alpha.
You would log the following: Net Control sends you a message or you send a message to someone else.
You would not log Net Control passing traffic to or from Shelter Bravo.

You will notice that the good folks at Winlink have heard complaints from a previous Winlink Wednesday and have added the date to the time box to the ICS214. All is right in the world.

Have fun this weekend!
