Week #76 Position Request: Status Reports

GM, Operators.

Welcome to Week #76.

This week we’re going to check on our operators in the field “passively”. This may be an option to communicate basic or general information that is not time sensitive. In other words, it’s something else to toss in your bag of Winlink tricks and tools.

This is a two-part exercise.

First, post your own position (Settings/GPS/Position Report). Use a GPS or type in your coordinates manually. In the Comment Field, put your station’s status. (Active; Standing By; In need of…, etc). Please put DRILL DRILL DRILL at the end.
Post the report to your Outbox, open a Winlink Session and send it.

For the second part, you are going to “check on your team”. Use the list below. Choose the six operators that are above your callsign on the list.

Open a Winlink Message and address it to QTH. In the subject line put: POSITION REQUEST (not report).
In the message body type in their callsigns, one per line.
For example:
NJ2N
W2TET
KD2JYF

Send your message; wait a few minutes and open another session. You should receive an email with your operator’s coordinates and their current status. These status reports could be updated as needed and checked at regular intervals or when time permits. This report will not generate a map.

It might be best to wait until Thursday or Friday (or later) to post your Position Request. That way other operators will have more time to update their Comment Field.

Have fun!
