Week #54 Send forms as PDF files to internet addresses

GE, Operators.

Welcome to Week #54 of the SNJ Winlink Wednesday.

I know everyone’s busy getting ready for the holidays, so we’ll keep things simple this time around.

This exercise is HF, FM, and Telnet friendly.

Most of you have sent Winlink messages to regular email addresses in the past. Unless you have the right settings in place, the regular email version of a form template loses its html formatting and reverts to a basic text version of the information. It’s all readable and the data is there, but there’s another option….

You can set Winlink to send form templates to regular email addresses as a PDF document. This looks more professional and can be easier to read and understand than the text version. The set-up is really simple.

Click on the Settings tab in Winlink Express and select Form Settings. Down toward the bottom of the pop-up window is a box that says, “Send forms as PDF files to internet addresses”. Check that box and you’re done. It’s really that simple.

So, for this week’s net, check that box. Then fill out a Local Weather Report and send it to your regular (non-Winlink) internet email address. Cc: it to SNJNWS.  When you receive the message in your regular email Inbox, open it and download the PDF attachment. You should get a printable version of the formatted form, just like if you were opening it up in Winlink.
[NOTE: The form may be smaller than you like – less than a full page. You can increase its size in your Printer settings or take a screenshot and crop and print that.]

That’s it. This will give you something a bit more polished to look at where the internet is up.
Like I said earlier: We’re keeping it simple. Have fun! And Happy Holidays!
